*This week in fourth grade we read a Realistic Fiction story called, The Fourth Grade Election. We learned vocabulary words including vote, candidates, secret ballot, election, leader, private, and nominate. Next, we put these words to good use by putting them into action through practice through using them in an election of our own. You may have remembered or seen the blog post from a few weeks ago which included an opinion writing piece across the grade levels. After reading a story about a turkey for Thanksgiving, students in grades 1-4, completed a writing project in which they had to persuade others of their opinon as to why their food was better to eat than turkey. Fourth graders read and listened to all of the candidate's writing. Then they nominated the two final leaders. They voted privately and the winner was.....Destiny Sanchez in fourth grade. The runner-up was JoJo Zheng in first grade! Congratulations and great job to everyone! The fourth graders then decided that they liked this process so much, we should do a December winter writing project as well...stay tuned for that in the future!
