April was a very busy month for us! Below you will find pictures of the First Grade Family Math Night, where first graders and their families enjoyed playing some math games together. I even brought my Juliana along for the fun! April was also the month that I started the first grade poetry unit. We began each week with all three first grade classes together for a whole group lesson which consisted of reading a particular type of poem through teacher read-alouds and buddy reading. I did my teacher mini-lesson and model of that particular poem and then throughout the week, the first grade classroom teachers worked with students to create their own poems. At the end of each week we celebrated by sharing our poetry whole group in the Author's Share Chair and through small group share. Check out some of the fun we had with our "I Am" repetition poems, Feelings Poems, Popcorn Five Senses Poems, and Rhyming Poems with word families. We also had some beautiful days in April so our Kindergarten reading group went outside to read in the sunshine. Check out all of the pictures below!
